Day in the Sun.
An eclectic mix of acoustic Americana, Folk, Rock, Country, and Blues. Well-crafted songs and earthy delivery. Some Texas, a little Ozark, some suburbia and a pinch of Nashville all rolled into one.
Recommended if you like John Hiatt, Prine, Dylan, Waits, Guy Clark or Effron White.
Effron White is a singer-songwriter from Fayetteville, Arkansas (most recently, Mt. Juliet, TN). Voted "Best Folk Artist" at the 2002 Northwest Arkansas Music Awards (later inducted into the NW Arkansas Music Hall of Fame), Effron has become an established artist in his region, moving audiences with an eclectic blend of acoustic folk, rock, country, and blues. His vocals, combined with his percussive guitar style, lend surprising and powerful textures to his performances, whether he's belting out a lively rock or blues number, or soulfully savoring every word of a slow country ballad.
His sound and style bring to mind such artists as Bob Dylan, John Prine, Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, John Hiatt, and Tom Waits. Says Effron, "I was always drawn to those artists who didn't have a so-called 'good' singing voice, but could write a powerful song and drive it right into your soul with a voice from the heart."
"Day in the Sun" was Effron's first cd release. It was produced by Emily Kaitz. In addition to Kaitz, Effron receives accompaniment from some of Arkansas' finest musicians, including: Kelly Mulhollan, Donna Henshel, Phil Lancaster, and John Johnston (all from the group Still on th Hill; Ezra Idlet, of Grammy-nominated Trout Fishing in America; Susan Shore; and others. The album was nominated "Album of the Year" at the 2001 Ozark Music Awards. There are several award-winning songs on the record, including "Right Next to Nothing", which won Second Place in the 1999 Chris Austin Songwriting Contest, as well as the Grand Prize in the 2000 Enormous Records' Song Contest. Effron went on to win the coveted "New Folk Award" at the Kerrville Folk Festival in 2004.
